I. Inception

Somewhere in the Austrian Alps; the first third of the 20th century; the middle of a frightful thunderstorm. A very large hunting lodge. Two men, one young, the other middle-aged, are seated in its largest room, its 50-foot-high walls covered densely and to the ceiling with the heads and necks of the mammals killed by members of this lodge since its founding. Beyond the room, a liveried servant is carefully descending a grand staircase, bearing a silver tray with a late supper for two.
